Mark Twain comes to Arizona

On Friday night Bruce and Sarah invited us to see Hal Holbrook in a one-man show. He played Mark Twain and performed excerpts from Twain's work. The show was in the Mesa Arts Center - an interesting facility with amazing architecture and a fantastic theater. Holbrook was incredible as Mark Twain - it felt like we were just spending the evening chatting with the author. Holbrook has been performing as Twain since he was 29 and now he's 80. Now that's some expertise!

Saturday we spent the morning in an orientation for Habitat for Humanity. They have two communities in Phoenix that are really unique. They're both all habitat housing and they're like a normal housing development with a park in the middle and a homeowner's association all the residents have to join. It was nice to hear about all the good things they're doing and all the volunteer opportunities. The houses they were building were beautiful and they told us that each one had 3-4 bedrooms and was valued at close to $100,000. That seemed like a lot to David and I and we debated whether they could have made more houses for more people by making each one less expensive. I wish I had photos because the homes were really something to see.

On Sunday we went to Zoolights at the Phoenix Zoo. We had free tickets from the hospital so we spent a few hours walking around and looking at the beautiful decorations and light shows at the zoo. We also saw a few animals (zebras and otters), but I think most of the wildlife was hiding from the bright lights and big crowds.
