This weekend we went to Key West for Karen's wedding. Friday drove down from Miami -it took quite a bit longer than we thought it would but we still had time to catch a walk on the beach before the pre-wedding bbq Friday night. The food was great (what is it about salty air that makes everything taste better?) and it was nice to have time to catch up with Mary and Nadine.

Saturday started with a relaxing rooftop brunch with Karen followed by an afternoon of walking around Key West. We were worried that the suit David brought for the wedding might be too warm so he tried on some cooler, island outfits (think bright pink and yellow) but ultimately decided they were all a little too Miami and probably not practical for wearing back home.
The wedding Saturday night was amazing. It couldn't have been a more perfect or romantic setting on the boat with the sunset in the backrground.
Sunday morning we headed out early for a kayak and snorkel adventure. We took a boat about 7 miles out into the Atlantic to an abandoned lighthouse with a coral reef around it. The snorkeling was great but the seas were really rough so I think we were both glad to get back onto solid ground (or at least into the boat). After the snorkeling, the boat took us to a mangrove island we could kayak around. The mangroves were beautiful and home to a wide variety of wildlife - birds, jellyfish, baby baracuda and even a nurse shark we saw up close and personal.

Reluctant to leave, we packed up early Monday and started the drive back to Miami. We got a tip from someone in the hotel about a state park on the way back so we decided to check it out. It was blissfully uncrowded and we were able to kayak out to a small deserted island where we found amazing tide pools with
sea urchins and all sorts of fish. This is the life!
