Type A all the way

David and I were planning to go to Jerome today but we saw on the news this morning that the Apprentice was holding an open casting call nearby so we decided to check it out. When we got there, we were surprised at the number and the intensity of the people. Many had flown in from other cities and some had traveled around the country going to as many casting calls as they could. We debated whether to use the "interview" time to warn the producers about all the nuts in line. We took a picture of a guy in the top hat but we never did figure out what his gimmick was.

After a few hours of standing in the sun and listening to one too many stories about someone's educational prowess or the business they started out of their basement, we finally got in to the interview room. It was a square table with a girl about our age seated in the front. We sat down with 15 or so other people and introduced ourselves. You had to say who you were and why you would be a good Apprentice. One woman passed forward a baby gift for Trump's baby. She told us earlier that she had also left a package outside the producers' hotel room. Need we say more?

The girl next to me was a first grade teacher, the man on the end was a criminal defense attorney, and several people were in sales. One man told the table that his net worth was $250K. Thank you for letting us know. After the introductions, we had 6 minutes to debate a topic amongst the table. The topic was domestic wiretapping.


The debate was lively although completely devoid of substance. Mostly it was just people trying to be heard over one another. David did great and made a point that definitely shifted the direction of the conversation. Before we knew it our 15 seconds was over and we were headed back out into the bright Arizona sunshine. Ah, what a brush with fame...
