This weekend I went to Denver to visit Caitlin. After some challenges getting there (don't fly Ted), I finally made it to the mile-high city around midnight Friday.
Saturday morning we drove up through Boulder to Estes Park. As the snow started to fall, we took a spin around the Rocky Mountain national park and pulled off to the side of the road to snap some photos of a herd of elk gathering in someone's front yard. The views of the mountains and snow covered pines were breathtaking. There aren't enough superlatives to even describe...
On the way back from the park, we stopped in town and had hamburgers and chili at a quirky fun restaurant with lots of locals. After browsing around town a bit, we headed back home.
Saturday night we had dinner at an amazing restaurant, Potager. They use ingredients from their garden so the menu reflects the season. We split three phenomenal "late winter" dishes and topped off the indulgence with a flourless chocolate cake.
Sunday we had planned to go to the botanical gardens but the steady snowfall prompted us to reconsider. Instead we took a walk around a nearby lake and warmed up with some hot cocoa at the Tattered Cover bookstore. Sunday afternoon we cooked an early dinner and watched the snow fall outside while Owen read the paper.
